When is an audition not a audition?
Time: The first thing I do when a casting call is coming up is I’ll look for the script and I’ll say, “You’ve got a great script, but we don’t need that.
We need an audition, let’s go find an audition.”
And they’ll come up with, “Oh, we need an actor who’s really good at a certain thing,” and I’m like, “Okay, we’re going to do an audition and see if that’s you.
It’s an audition.
You’re the one.”
And it’s funny, because the person who gets the job will always be like, Whoa.
So it’s never, “Uh-oh, I gotta get out of here.
It ain’t a job.
It could be an audition for a show.”
The only time it’s ever, “Whoa, I’m getting out of this.”
It’s always, “What do you need?”
I think that’s one of the biggest things.
If you’re not good at what you’re doing, it’s a hard one to find.
And if you do find someone, they’re gonna be like “Well, I didn’t have the character, but you guys did a really good job of casting that role and it’s an excellent choice.
So we’re gonna go pick you up and you’re gonna do the audition.”
So that’s a very good point of view, that if you’re good at something, it should be the job that you should be doing.
But it’s not always the case.
Sometimes, it may be more of a, “Do you want to be on a show or a movie or something?”
If you have an idea that’s so great that it’s been put to good use and you think that the casting call for that could be a show, it could be another TV show or something, and they’re like, Well, you know what, I can’t do that, so we’re not going to take you.
That’s what happened with the TV show that we did.
I remember I was working on the show and I was in the writers room and I said, “I think I’d like to be in the next season.
I’m going to write this pilot, and I think it would be great to do it on a TV show.”
And the next day, we were at the casting table, and the casting director, who’s like the TV casting director at the time, was like, What the hell are you talking about?
I’m telling you, that’s not a great idea.
And I was like “No, no, no.
I can do that.
I know what it’s like.
I have a great screenplay.
I’ll write this and you can do the pilot.”
He was like—he was like that’s great.
It worked out for us.
It just didn’t work out.
I went home, and it was like an hour later, I was still working on that script.
I had a phone call, and she was like.
“You know, this was so great, but I’m gonna tell you what I would like to do.”
And I said: “You want me to be the next character?”
And she was so excited, I said “Sure, why not?”
So I said I would be on the next episode.
She said, Well we’re doing a series, so you can’t be.
I was so happy because I would have been in that next episode and she’d been like, I’ll be in a movie next week.
So that was the last one we did, and then we did another one, and a lot of the other shows ended up on those last few shows, because I was kind of doing it for a while, and there wasn’t a show that was really interested in me.
I did that for awhile and then I just kind of stopped.
And then I did an interview for a movie.
And she asked me what my best role was, and what I had been really good about.
And what was my worst role?
And I told her, “That’s a great question, but no, I don’t have a best role.”
And she said, You’re not doing any good, are you?
And she’s like, No, you’re wrong.
I think I’ve been really great at everything I’ve done.
I really enjoy doing it.
And it was really fun to do, because you know, I do the best part that I’ve ever done in a script.
And the only thing that I have to really be good at is the writing.
I don, you can get a lot done on a script, and you have to be really good with the writing to make it good.
I never have to do a bad scene.
I mean, I’ve had bad scenes, and no one’s ever been like—not me—but people have been like “Oh
